Generally: Doulas provide physical and emotional support for the laboring woman and her family.
Specifically:
- We are Coaches - Coaching you through your breathing patterns, positioning and relaxation.
- We are Gophers - We Go For ice chips, cold washcloths, warm blankets, pillows, and snacks, so your partner never has to leave your side.
- We are Reminders - Reminding you of the tools in your toolbox, and the need to stay hydrated, nourished and relaxed.
- We are Teammates - We support your partner and your family members by coaching them to take turns with counter pressure, massage, physical support and encouragement. We want them to feel confident in their ability to help you and can answer their questions and make suggestions about what you might need. We also step in anytime they are uncomfortable with something, need to get a hot meal or rest for a bit.
- We are Fans - Cheering you on, Believing in you, Encouraging you!
- We are Experts - Through our years of experience and training, we can answer your questions and help you form questions to ask your care providers before, during and after your baby's birth.
- We believe that knowledge is power and we discount the cost of labor support when you also take our classes. We want to remind you of the tools you have in your toolbox versus just handing you tools from ours.
- We are on call for you as soon as you sign up with us.
- We will join you whenever you are ready for support and there is no time limit or additional charge due to the length of your labor or the duration of our participation.
- We stay with you until you are ready for us to go (unless there is a specific hospital policy). There is no time limit or additional charge if you need us longer than you imagined after the baby is born.
- We are available before your labor for meetings, phone calls, text and email. No limit.
- We are available after your baby is here for breastfeeding support, encouragement and postpartum questions. No limit.
- You can change your mind. We do not require a deposit. This is your baby, your body, your family, and your experience. We unconditionally support you in having whatever you want and need.
- If necessary, you can make payments for the cost of services on a payment plan that you design.
